The Northern Bellarine Foreshore Masterplan identifies the Point Richards precinct as a Special Investigation Area that is a priority for further detailed planning and for the delivery of improvement works. This is because the area is quite complex in terms of its different uses by visitors and its environmental and operational challenges.

Bellarine Bayside, as manager of the foreshore at Pt Richards, has received funding from state government for the improvement of onshore facilities for the boating community. Bellarine Bayside has also provided additional funds to the project. With the limited funds available, the priorities of the final concept plan that will be addressed are the improvement of car parking for the boating community, creating the foreshore access road and improving site drainage. In the future additional funds will be sought to complete other aspects detailed in the Northern Bellarine Foreshore Master Plan.

Works are due to begin in the Pt Richards car park and boat ramp precinct on Monday 17 July 2017 and are expected to be completed by the September school holidays. The car park will be closed to the general public and access to the area will be restricted during contruction. Limited weekend access will be available to all users. Alternative boat ramps are available at Clifton Springs, Indented Head and St Leonards.

UPDATE: Friday 22 September 2017

The works to improve the Pt Richards car park for all users is nearing completion and access to the public was made available on Friday 22 September 2017.  Two lanes of the boat ramp have also been opened and excess sand movement on to the ramp will be monitored and removed regularly. The dredging works in this area have been delayed (due to urgent works required elsewhere), and the final works to be completed in the precinct include the installation of fish cleaning tables, security lighting, bollards and landscaping.

Dredging works have been delayed due to the dredge urgently required at another locaton. In partnership with the City of Greater Geelong the dredged sand will be pumped along the beachfront at Ramblers Rd to improve coastal resilience to winter storms in this region.
