Draft Northern Bellarine Coastal and marine management plan released for public consultation
The Draft CMMP has been developed in accordance with the Marine and Coastal Act 2018 to guide the future protection, enhancement, development and management of 17km of northern Bellarine coastal Crown land reserve extending from Point Richards in Portarlington to Beach Road in St Leonards. It does so by setting the vision and goals guiding the management of the reserve through strategic actions and an implementation plan of works for the next five years.
Consultation with the community, partner agencies, stakeholders and Traditional Owners has been integral to inform the planning process of the Draft CMMP. Following an independent review of the previous strategic plan (The Northern Bellarine Foreshore Plan 2012 and Master Plan 2013), a comprehensive Issues and Options Discussion Paper was released alongside a community survey to gauge what the community value along the foreshore, as well as gather local knowledge on issues the community feels need to be addressed.
Community aspirations, legislative requirements and state government policy framework are reflected within the Draft CMMP, guiding development of the vision, goals and strategic actions. In addition to this, precinct-specific actions were further developed by also taking into consideration management priorities and resources.
