Community consultation on Point Richards boating facility upgrade

The Point Richards boating facility is getting an upgrade thanks to the State Government’s unprecedented investment in boating in Victoria through their new branch, Better Boating Victoria (BBV). This project is part of the Government’s $47.2 million commitment to deliver urgent upgrades to six of the state’s busiest public boat ramps, remove parking and launching fees and review infrastructure management at Port Phillip and Western Port.

The upgrade will take place in two stages, starting with an upgrade to the car park aimed to improve pedestrian safety, more parking and better traffic flow.

BBV, Bellarine Bayside, Maritime Safety Victoria and the Victorian Fisheries Authority will be hosting a community event about the project to hear what ideas the community who use Point Richards boating facility have. So, if you want to see the draft plans and have your say in building a better boating facility then come along.

There will be a BBQ and refreshments available as well as interactive boating and fishing education and safety displays for all the family.

The feedback received from the community event will inform a final concept design that will be used as the basis for the future upgrade.

Event details:

Date: Saturday 30 November

Time: 2-4pm

Location: Point Richards boat ramp, Point Richards Railway, Portarlington, 3223.

The second stage of the upgrade will address changes to marine side infrastructure once a coastal processes study to better understand the issues associated with seagrass and sand build up is complete. A separate consultation for this second stage will occur in 2020.
