On Sunday 24 September 2017 Bellarine Bayside hosted a Community Waterwatch Day at Indented Head in partnership with Corangamite Catchment Management Authority. The day focused on water quality in drains that flow in to Port Phillip Bay and despite the cold and windy morning about a dozen community members attended to learn more about water quality testing and soon-to-commence environmental enhancement project at the Indented Head saltmarsh.
The kids searched for and identified different types of insect larvae (or nymphs) in water samples, such as the dragonfly nypmh, and then we collected water from the drain and tested it for pH and electrical conductivity (EC). Information gained from these tests and the insects living in the water give an indication of the health of the waterway.
