Bellarine Bayside is excited to announce that as part of a multi-stakeholder partnership we have successfully obtained funding from the Federal Government in round four of the Green Army programme. The Green Army is a hands-on, practical environmental action programme that supports local environment and heritage conservation projects across Australia.
Bellarine Bayside entered into a collaboration with Parks Victoria, Barwon Coast, Bellarine Catchment Network and Bellarine Landcare Group. With these five groups working together to manage the Green Army team, benefits to the region increase while Bellarine Bayside continues its strong relationship with these organisations. The Green Army team will consist of nine participants who will deliver on-ground conservation works for the partners and is facilitated by Conservation Volunteers Australia. The Green Army team will work five days a week over six months starting in July.
The investment priority for the five project hosts is to protect and conserve threatened species or ecological communities of international and national importance, migratory species, regionally-significant species and their habitat. This will be delivered in accordance with relevant management plans. On-ground works will range from targeted weeding programs through to revegetation and restoration works. These works will enhance and protect significant ecological areas throughout the Bellarine Peninsula.
Potential projects specific to Bellarine Bayside that the Green Army may work on include weeding and planting at Point Richards Flora and Fauna Reserve, bird monitoring at the Indented Head saltmarsh, litter clean-up and surveys as part of the Caring for Our Bays programme and beach erosion profiling at various places along our coastline.
