NAIDOC week represents a time for all Australians to celebrate the rich history, culture and achievements of our nation’s first people. It is an opportunity to reflect on and recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. Bellarine Bayside would like to extend their appreciation and recognition to the Wadawurrung who continue to be the guardians of Aboriginal cultural heritage on the Northern Bellarine. We would also like to congratulate the ten outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who were honoured at the 2017 National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony. To celebrate NAIDOC Week, Bellarine Bayside is hosting a Community Environment Day on Sunday 9 July at the Miller Boys Memorial in St Leonards (opposite 77 Bluff Rd, St Leonards). We hope you can join us.
For further information on our Community Environment Days or any other project, please phone 5254 5000 or email contactus@bellarinebayside.com.au.
Our photos on this page were taken on 12 August 2016 as part of the Landcare Rural Women’s Day, which included a smoking ceremony by the Wadawurrung women, learning about bush tucker in Pt Richards Flora and Fauna Reserve, and traditional basket weaving.
Bellarine Bayside acknowledges the Wadawurrung People as the Traditional Custodians of the Bellawiyn land, waterways and skies, and we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future. We recognise the unique ability of Wadawurrung People to care for Country and the intrinsic spiritual, cultural, economic, social and environmental connections they share with the land and waters. We are committed to partnering with Wadawurrung to achieve effective management of Country through self-determination.
Bellarine Bayside is committed to providing respectful and inclusive workplace, valuing the unique contributions, skills and perspectives of each individual. We are committed to providing a work environment free of discrimination and harassment.
