Portarlington PS Environmental Education Day

On Friday 30 June 2017, Portarlington Primary School Grades 3 through 6 participated in an Environmental Education Day with Bellarine Bayside, Bellarine LandcareBellarine Catchment Network and the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre. Environmental education days aim to teach our primary school children about their local coastal environment and encourage the kids to become environmental heroes for the Northern Bellarine. On the last day before heading off on holidays, the kids made their way to the Portarlington foreshore and participated in a range of activities including measuring and drawing a beach profile, learning about and identifying intertidal species, an environmental beach challenge showcasing the importance of picking up rubbish and plastics, and creating a web of life and connecting species. Heading into Plastic Free July, these activities encourage our environmental heroes to love and protect their local environment by reducing plastic waste and disposing of litter correctly.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week (2-9 July 2017) we will be hosting a Community Environment Day on Sunday 9 July 2017 at Miller Boys Memorial in St Leonards. And on 30 July 2017 we will be holding a Community Environment Day at Pt Richards Flora and Fauna Reserve as part of National Tree Day.
