You know it’s Spring on the Bellarine when you see the fields of golden canola.
The vibrant yellow flowers are a welcome sight after the long winter, but canola is not the only colourful thing you’ll find on the Bellarine these school holidays.
Go the doggies!
It’s AFL grand final time, and whether you’re into the footy or not, it’s always a good excuse to get away and soak up the atmosphere.
The fun starts on the public holiday, Friday 23 September, with the AFL Dog Footy Fashion Parade in Portarlington. Hosted by Woofers and Walkers, the action starts at 11am at the Portarlington Community Information Booth (the rotunda), Newcombe Street.
On grand final day, Saturday 24 September, kick back and enjoy the footy action at Arthurs in the Portarlington holiday park. Of course, the television will be on and there’s a footy oval just across the road so you can head out at half time for a kick.
Shop local
The Portarlington Community Market returns to the foreshore on Sunday 25 September.
Organised by the Portarlington/Drysdale Lions Club, the market hosts up to 150 traders offering a wide variety of arts and crafts, hardware, books, fashion, secondhand goods, fresh, preserved and ready-to-eat food products, and much more.
It’s located on W.G. Little Reserve opposite the town shopping centre, overlooking the Portarlington harbour and right next to the children’s playground.
Funds raised at the market support community activities and services on the North Bellarine as well as other worthwhile charitable causes.
So you can shop ’til you drop and feel good about it!
Sail away to the city
Here’s an idea for those looking to break up a longer stay or avoid the footy. Take the ferry to the city! It’s oh-so-close and the journey is half the fun.
