We’re all fired up for winter – here’s why!

Winter is coming, but don’t let that keep you away from the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula. In fact, it’s when things really fire up around here.

Book yourself a cosy pod or cabin, pack the van or camper, and start planning your winter getaway. To help get you started, we’ve compiled a list of five ways to fire up this winter this winter on the Bellarine.

1. Join Portarlington’s hottest party

The National Celtic Festival makes a welcome return on the long weekend in June. The festival is a major highlight of winter in Portarlington, bringing music, dancing, food and fun to the town across four big days.

Showcasing the best of Celtic culture and folk from across Australia, as well as internationally, the festival is a ticketed event. However there are also plenty of free attractions including family entertainment, market stalls and food vendors for all to enjoy.

2. Get your glow on at Adventure Park

Discover a glowing winter wonderland  at Adventure Park’s Winter Glow these June-July school holidays! Feel the magic of snow, ride awesome theme park rides, see thousands of epic light installations and amazing fire twirling and ice sculpting displays. Adventure Park is just a short drive down the Bellarine Highway at Wallington and is sure to delight visitors of all ages.

3. Tuck in to BBQ and blues at Bellarine Estate

It’s no secret the Bellarine Peninsula has some of the best food and wine experiences going around, and most of our local wineries are open throughout the winter months. But if you like your food with music on the side, head to Bellarine Estate for a ‘BBQ and Blues’ night. 

A fantastic line-up of talented artists and bands is scheduled over the next few months, to be enjoyed alongside Bellarine Estate’s mouth-watering BBQ dishes. Upcoming events include:

4. Marvel at our mussels 

Here’s something new for foodies: Portarlington Mussel Tours offer an intimate bay experience, celebrating the region’s famous mussels.

Learn more about the mussel farming process from the comfort of a lovingly restored and very comfortable 40-year-old Huon pine vessel. Get to know the mussel farmer and see how the mussels are expertly cultivated. Experience cooking demonstrations and tastings, complemented by Bellarine wines and other local produce.

5. Catch a live show at the Potato Shed

Love a theatre show? Keen for a concert? Check out the program of events at the Potato Shed in Drysdale. It’s an easy 15 minute drive via the bypass from Portarlington holiday park.

Theatre 3Triple2 presents a unique event over two fantastic nights of cosy entertainment in the form of two original one-act plays from our talented local playwrights and performers. Live music, mulled wine and warm fires will be silhouetted against the starry night sky.

Tribute to Olivia Newton John – 23 June
Come along and celebrate Aussie songbird Andrea Lees as she sings tribute to her favourite Australian Icon and OBE recipient Olivia Newton John. Hosted by Mr Issi Dye.

School holiday shows
For the kids, there’s great school holiday entertainment with Snowy and the Seven Cool Dudes on 27 June, and Jack and the Beanstalk from 4-7 July.
